MISTRAS Products and Systems Division conceives, develops, and manufactures leading-edge technologies and products for Nondestructive testing (NDT) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM). MISTRAS product engineering designs and develops all electronic hardware, software, and mechanical items used in MISTRAS products. Much of the engineering effort is on contracts to deliver bespoke products for specific client requirements as diverse as heart valve testing systems, gas cylinder testing systems, structural monitoring instrumentation and sensors to work at 500°C in high radiation environments, or survive 100,000 G shock. Manufacturing takes place in the USA and Europe, under ISO quality systems. Most electronic assemblies are manufactured in-house using automated surface mount equipment, which provides precision, speed, and consistency. Sensors are built using precision machined parts and assembled by hand using jigs or semi-automation. Large mechanical systems, such as 25 metre ultrasonic phased array immersion tanks, are built in a specialist facility. Leak Detection Systems
MISTRAS has a range of acoustic leak detection systems and also carries out bespoke designs to meet specific client needs. MISTRAS has in excess of thirty years’ experience in acoustic leak detection on a wide variety of applications in many industries. VPAC™ technology was originally developed by Physical Acoustics together with BP for estimating leakage rates through valves to flare in refineries, offshore platforms, and other process plant with flare systems. Key to VPAC success is the ability to operate in high noise environments, a result of the short-wavelength anti-vibration sensor technology.
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Systems
MISTRAS UT (ultrasonic testing) products range from portable hand-held single channel to industrial production testing systems using phased-array probes and multi-axis. In many cases existing production systems can be upgraded using a MISTRAS UT system upgrade package, saving the high cost of mechanicals which may have many years of serviceable life remaining. Computed Radiography (CR) Systems
MISTRAS Products division represents VMI in the U.K., the leading supplier of CR (computed radiography) systems in the U.S.A. VMI offers two main CR systems, the model 5100, a 25 micron resolution desktop system, designed for static use in any industry, and the Blade “ultra-portable” system designed for portable field use. Both systems are guaranteed not to damage the imaging plates, which is a common issue with other CR systems. VMI with its Starrview software simply offers the best imaging results for any CR system on the market, and as a result is the industry standard for CR on welds and aerospace. When image quality matters, use VMI.

PCMS® (Plant Condition Management Software)
PCMS (Plant Condition Management Software) is central to efficient and effective plant inspection and integrity management. PCMS manages the inspection of all static plant, i.e. pressure vessels, storage tanks, pipework, valves, ensuring compliance with the relevant codes and standards. PCMS communicates with the site maintenance management software (e.g. SAP) to get item data and more importantly to ensure the loop is closed between inspection and maintenance actions. PCMS started life in the early 80’s as a piping corrosion management system, and has developed as a result of user input at its annual convention since then to become the most complete system of its type on the market today.
